Mount Isa Paint and Sip Recap: Sunflowers, Cool Air and a Bloody Lovely Crowd at Buffs Club
Our Mount Isa Paint and Sip at Buffs Club was one of those nights that reminded us exactly why we love touring regional Australia. Great venue, smooth setup, a room full of lovely people, a birthday crew ready to celebrate, colourful outfits, and a sea of Van Gogh-inspired sunflower paintings that all came out with their own little personality.

Mt Isa might be hot and sweaty outside, but inside Buffs Club it was a whole different world. And thank god for that, because it was fucking cold in there in the best possible way. After the heat outside, the air conditioning alone deserved a standing ovation.
We were staying just down the road with Penelope and Bert, dropped them at a doggie carer for the night, and headed over to Buffs Club ready to roll. By some miracle from the event gods, we scored a park right outside the entrance. Not nearby. Not sort of close. Right outside. A rare and beautiful thing when you are unloading canvases, easels, paint, brushes and all the other bits and pieces that make a Paint Juicy night happen. There was absolutely no way I was giving that spot up for anybody.
From there, setup was easy as. We rolled straight into the entrance, down the ramp, past the Buffs Sports Bar, into the lift and up to the function space. No weird back-door maze, no hauling gear up staircases, no nonsense. Once upstairs, we had our own lift access, toilets, sinks and a bar right out on the alfresco area, which made the whole thing feel easy and self-contained from the start.

Buffs Club Was a Cracker Venue for a Mount Isa Paint and Sip
Buffs Club on Simpson and Grace Street is one of those venues that makes hosting easy. The space worked really well for the night, with plenty of room for everyone to settle in, paint, move around and still feel comfortable. The lighting looked great, the tables were well set up for a large mixed crowd, and the whole room had that relaxed function-space feel without losing energy.
Once everyone started arriving, it became clear very quickly that this was going to be a lovely session. The mood was calm from the start. No stress, no weird energy, no one coming in hot like they were about to start a pub brawl with a paintbrush in hand. Just a genuinely nice crowd ready for a good night.

A Proper Mixed Crowd and a Big Birthday Booking
One of the best parts of the night was the mix of people who came along. We had groups of friends, couples, singles, people travelling through, locals, birthday guests, and people just keen for a fun night out in Mount Isa. That kind of mix always makes a room feel more interesting, and this one had a really easy, friendly vibe from the second everyone settled in.
We also had a 14-person birthday booking for Sinden’s 39 plus one birthday, which absolutely brought the fun. The birthday group looked fantastic, came in ready to celebrate, and added a lot of life to the night without tipping the whole room into chaos. Exactly what you want.
The photos say it all too. Smiles everywhere, paintings held up proudly, people leaning into the theme, and that kind of relaxed confidence you only get when everyone is genuinely having a nice time.

Dress-Ups, Colour and Zero Shame
A few people came dressed up, which we absolutely love and always encourage. There is something about a Paint and Sip where people make a bit of effort with their outfit that instantly lifts the mood. It tells you they are not just turning up to fill time. They are here to have a proper night.
And honestly, the dress-up energy looked fantastic in the room. Bright colours, fun combinations, a bit of cheek, a bit of personality attitude that works perfectly at a Paint Juicy event.
We mentioned that James and I would normally be dressing up too, but the heat had properly flattened that ambition. A few people jokingly did not approve and claimed it was chilly. Chilly. At 34 degrees. That is Mount Isa confidence and I respect it deeply.

Van Gogh Was the Go
For this session, Van Gogh was the go, with a sunflower artwork inspired by those swirling skies and big bright blooms. It was the perfect choice for the room because it gave people enough structure to follow while still leaving heaps of room for their own style to come through.
And that really showed in the finished paintings.
Some people leaned hard into the swirling blues and punchy yellows. Some added extra flowers, different shapes, dotted details, bold skies or softer fields. A few gave their paintings a really playful look, while others went more classic. That is one of the best things about Paint and Sip. Everyone starts from the same guide, but the finished artworks always reflect the person painting them.
The tables looked incredible once everyone got going too. Canvases everywhere, paint trays in full use, bits of food and drinks scattered across the night, and that happy organised chaos that comes from people being properly engaged in what they are doing.

80s and 90s Tunes and a Surprisingly Tame Crowd
The soundtrack for the night was 80s and 90s, which always hits the sweet spot for a broad crowd. Enough nostalgia to get people smiling, enough familiarity to loosen everyone up, and enough recognisable bangers to keep the room feeling alive without it needing to turn into a full dance floor.
What surprised us most was just how tame and lovely everyone was. We honestly expected the room to be a bit rowdier, especially with the birthday booking and the mix of groups, but the crowd was warm, welcoming and so easy to host. Everyone just seemed happy to be there.
It was one of those sessions where people were chatting, laughing, painting, sipping away and just genuinely enjoying themselves without any drama. A proper relaxed Mount Isa night out.

Meeting Steph Was a Highlight
One of the most unexpected and genuinely nice moments of the night was meeting Steph, who also runs another Mount Isa Paint and Sip at the same venue. She was absolutely lovely, and we had such a good chat.
She said something that felt very true. When you run Paint and Sip events yourself, you almost never get to attend one and just enjoy it. You are always setting up, teaching, hosting, cleaning, thinking ahead and making sure everyone else has a good time. So meeting someone else who truly gets that was a lovely little moment.
Even better, Steph is coming back again to see what we do, along with her mum and a few others who have already booked future dates. We cannot wait to have them back. It is always nice meeting others in the same field, especially when there is mutual respect and curiosity rather than weird competitive nonsense.

The Finished Paintings Were Full of Personality
The best kind of Paint and Sip photos are the ones where you can see everyone’s personality showing through in the finished canvas, and this Mount Isa session absolutely delivered that.
Some paintings were neat and balanced. Some were bold and expressive. Some had chunky sunflowers, others had little delicate blooms. Some skies swirled like wild weather and some looked like soft dreamy stars. That variety is the magic of it. Same artwork, completely different results.
And the group photos were gold. Big smiles, proud faces, canvases held up high, and that lovely sense of “look what I made” that never gets old. It did not matter if someone had painted before or not. Everyone had something to show off by the end of the session.

Why We Loved Our Mt Isa Paint and Sip
This was one of those regional sessions that just felt easy in the best way. The venue worked brilliantly, the room was cool, the setup was smooth, the crowd was lovely, the birthday group brought energy, and the paintings came out looking fantastic.
Mount Isa has a strong personality as a place. It is hot, a little rugged, and full of people who know how to have a laugh. That showed up in the room too. The whole night felt welcoming, relaxed and fun without ever becoming too much.
Those are often the best nights. Not the most chaotic, not the loudest, not the wildest. Just a room full of good people having a genuinely nice time.

We Cannot Wait to Be Back in Mount Isa
We absolutely loved our Mount Isa Paint and Sip at Buffs Club and cannot wait to come back. Nights like this are exactly why we keep taking Paint Juicy on the road. You meet lovely people, see different parts of Australia, and watch a room full of strangers and friends alike settle in and create something fun together.
If you came along, thank you for making it such a beautiful session.
And if you have been thinking about coming to a Paint and Sip in Mt Isa, this is your sign. You do not need any painting experience. You just need to turn up, have a drink, have a laugh and give it a crack.
