The Gabba, Brisbane

Guess what? We’ve found all you sporting lovers out there your new holy ground. Home of the mighty Brisbane Lions, the red hot Brisbane Heat and the raging Brisbane Bulls, the Gabba will have you spoilt for choice no matter what the season!

About The Gabba, Woolloongabba

First established in 1895 and traditionally known the Brisbane Cricket Ground, the Gabba was originally only used for cricket matches before beginning to invite other sports to venue. Seating 42,000 people and hosting a range of functions as well as major sporting events including cricket, AFL, baseball, rugby league, rugby union, Olympic soccer and even sell-out concerts, you won’t know what to do with yourself! Inside the Gabba you’ll find bar and food stalls that will have you covered for all your sporting food staples! You’ll be able to sit back with a bucket of hot chips and a pint of your favourite beer.

The Olympics at The Gabba

The open air oval boasts unrestricted views from wherever you are sat which makes it ideal for international sporting and entertainment events. This is why it’s in the running to be crowned the main stadium for the Olympic and Paralympic Games when Brisbane hosts the games in 2032. With a potential billion dollar redevelopment imminent to be the centrepiece of the city, you’ll have even more of a reason to visit.

How to get to The Gabba

Since the Gabba is a public transport destination, the best way to get your butts there is public transport, duh! You can travel for free (yes, free) within the Brisbane City Council shire by showing your pre-purchased ticket on the train, buses and special event shuttles from 4 hours before the event. These will all get you super close to your gates but if you’re getting your lift legend to drop and pick you up, there are designated zones just a short walk away from the stadium on either Princess Street, Potts Street or Hubert Street.

While you’re waiting on your event, you can pop over to the best kept secret in Brisbane, the Gabba Central Shopping Centre. Grab a bite after the big game, shop til you drop in between or get your caffeine fix in the morning a stones throw away from the sporting precinct.
