What this night is
Midweek in Bargara just found its loud night. On Wednesday 25 November, Paint Juicy takes Bargara Golf Club on Miller Street back to the 70s and 80s, with a singalong around the easels in the clubhouse that looks out over the Pacific. The first brushstroke lands at 6pm and the night wraps within three hours, so you're home at a sensible hour with a canvas to prove you went out on a Wednesday.
Lotti Rem is on live vocals, and the early part of the night leans 70s, with disco floor fillers and soft rock harmonies drifting over the easels. The 80s take over as the room warms up, bringing the classic rock riffs and the big hair pop everyone pretends they've forgotten. Your host is on the mic for every step of the painting, so you can sing with one hand and paint with the other.
Tonight's painting is Prick My Interest, a desert at dusk with two big saguaro cacti holding their arms up to a sky that runs from deep blue through turquoise into orange and gold. Cacti are about the friendliest shapes you can paint, chunky curves with no fiddly edges, which is why first timers so often surprise themselves with this one. The breaks between layers are part of the plan, giving the paint time to dry and you time to wander up to the bar.
A Wednesday start suits plenty of people, from shift workers to retirees whose weekends are already spoken for. It's also a handy answer to the birthday that lands midweek and deserves more than a cake in the staffroom. Book a single seat if that's your style, because you'll be seated with a friendly table and swapping cactus tips by the second song.
It's a short drive from Bundaberg, Innes Park, Coral Cove, Burnett Heads and Kalkie. Fancy something calmer? The same club runs a textured art session at 1pm that afternoon with no singalong at all. Friday 27 November brings another singalong down the road at Elliott Heads, and every local date sits on our Bargara paint and sip and Bundaberg paint and sip pages.
Tonight's Artwork
Prick My Interest
A desert dusk in vivid colour. The sky glows in layers, deep blue up high, a stripe of turquoise, then orange easing into golden yellow, with a sliver of moon and some sparkly stars overhead. Two grand saguaro cacti stand in front with their arms reaching skyward, and smaller cacti sit out on the brown and cream dunes behind them, with green tufts of grass dotted at their base. Loose strokes, big colour and a canvas you will happily hang.

FAQs
Who's providing the vocals?
Lotti Rem, performing live through the whole session and working the 70s and 80s catalogue while your host walks you through the painting.
What's the artwork?
Prick My Interest. Two tall saguaro cacti stand against a layered dusk sky, with a sliver of moon, a scatter of stars and smaller cacti out on the dunes. Bold colour, loose strokes and very little that can go wrong.
How long does the night go?
Allow up to 3 hours from the 6pm start, so you're done around 9pm. Not bad for a school night.
Can a complete beginner do this?
Absolutely. Every step is demonstrated first and then painted together, at a pace that suits the room. You don't need to know how to draw a cactus before you arrive.
I sing like a strangled cockatoo. Problem?
Not at all. Singing along is entirely optional, and with Lotti carrying the tune, any noise you contribute just adds to the fun.
I'm coming solo. Will I fit in?
Yes. Heaps of guests book a single seat. We'll pair you up with a chatty table, and nobody paints in a corner on their own.
Our group is paying separately. Can we sit together?
Of course. Everyone just needs to enter matching group names in the "sitting with friends" field when checking out.
Is BYO allowed?
No BYO. The club's own bar and bistro look after drinks and meals on the night.
We've got a hen or a birthday girl in our group. Worth it midweek?
Definitely. Write their name and what you're toasting in the checkout note, and expect the whole clubhouse to give them a cheer.
Are tickets sold on the night?
No. Tickets are only available online through this page and can't be bought at the door, so book ahead.
Could we hire you just for our group?
Yes, for groups of 10 or more paid seats. It's $700 AUD flat for your first ten people, with $65 for every guest beyond ten. Your group picks the artwork from our catalogue, and colour or detail changes cost nothing extra. Private party details here.
