What this night is
Wingham, clear your Friday. On 6 November Paint Juicy rolls into Wingham Services Club on Bent Street with a paint and sip night soundtracked by the 80s and 90s, and painting starts at 6pm. You'll spend the evening turning a blank canvas into a whale gliding through deep blue water, while a room full of Manning Valley locals works out exactly how many lyrics they still remember from high school.
There's a live singer working the room all night, so the big choruses have someone out front to follow, and that makes it far easier for the quieter ones to join in. Your host handles the painting side on the mic, breaking Ocean Whale into manageable stages. The background and the whale's body come first, and the white highlights go on at the end, which is usually the moment every phone in the room comes out.
Expect the 80s to arrive first, all shoulder pad power ballads and the Aussie rock your dad still cranks in the car, before the 90s roll in with Britpop and boy band key changes. Between layers there's time to top up at the bistro bar, which pours cocktails and mocktails as well as the usual, and to retake the group photo until everyone's happy with their face in it.
Friday at 6pm is a ripper way to close out the working week. Book it for a catch-up with the netball girls or a long overdue night out with your sister, and yes, work drinks that people actually stay for count too. Poppies Brasserie is right there in the club, so dinner on the night is easy to sort. It's 18+, and plenty of guests book a seat just for themselves.
Taree is barely a quarter of an hour down the road, and it's a straightforward drive in from Tinonee, Cundletown, Krambach or Old Bar. The club says parking is plentiful, which always helps. Busy Friday? On Saturday we're up the coast at Lake Cathie, and on Sunday afternoon we're at South West Rocks for a 60s and 70s session. Every Wingham paint and sip date sits on the local page, with everything else under New South Wales events.

A majestic whale moves through deep ocean blue in a painting that balances grandeur and serenity. The whale's form is defined in dark navy and charcoal tones against a rich blue background, with white highlights catching the light as it moves through the water. The scale of the painting, filling the whole canvas, creates an immediate sense of awe. Before you arrive
Arrive a few minutes early. The venue has food and drinks available, bar at venue. Get settled in, grab a drink and find your seat before painting starts.
Wear clothes you do not mind painting in. We supply aprons but acrylic paint is enthusiastic and occasionally ambitious.
Dress ups are absolutely welcomed. Theme-appropriate gear always gets a big reaction from the room.
Tickets are online only. They are not sold at the door. Book yours online before the night.

Is the singing live?
It is. A vocalist performs throughout the session, covering the 80s and 90s favourites while you paint, so you've always got someone to follow on the chorus.
Which artwork are we doing?
Ocean Whale: a huge whale in navy and charcoal that fills the canvas, set against rich ocean blue and finished with crisp white highlights. It's one of the Paint Juicy catalogue designs, and it looks seriously impressive on a wall.
When does the night finish?
Brushes go up at 6pm on Friday 6 November, and you've got up to 3 hours from there, which puts you finishing around 9pm.
What if I'm hopeless at art?
Then you're exactly who this night was made for. The host demonstrates each step on the mic, and a whale is built from big shapes, which are far more forgiving than fine detail.
Do I have to join in the singing?
Only if the mood takes you, and it usually does. Mumbling through the verses and saving yourself for the chorus is a perfectly respectable approach.
Can I come by myself?
Of course. We'll put you on a friendly table, and by the second song you'll be swapping paint tips with the people beside you.
Our group bought tickets on different orders. Can we sit together?
Yes. Each person writes one shared group name in the checkout box headed "sitting with friends", and we'll put you next to each other.
Is it BYO?
No BYO. Wingham Services Club has a bistro bar serving cocktails, mocktails and the usual drinks, and Poppies Brasserie is on site for food.
Can we bring a hens or birthday group?
Yes, and we'll make a fuss of the guest of honour. Write who's celebrating in the checkout note and the host will give them a shout-out during the night.
Will there be tickets at the door?
No door sales on this one. Seats are booked online through this page, so lock yours in before Friday.
Could our crew have a private night instead?
