“The whole room felt like joy!!”
Thermie Carmie, five-star Google review
Your Saturday night just got a serious upgrade. 80s and 90s bangers, step-by-step painting, singalong moments and a room full of people who know every word. You leave with a finished canvas and a sore voice.
Good to know: 18+ only. No BYO, bar at venue.

What this night is
Club Lake Cathie on Evans Street is where we're headed on 7 November, bringing the 80s and 90s singalong to the Mid North Coast, and the paint and sip fun kicks off at 6pm. The canvas is Ocean Whale, which feels right at home on this stretch of the Mid North Coast, and the soundtrack is two decades of choruses you'll be amazed you still know word for word.
There's a live singer out front from the opening song to the last, and that makes a huge difference when a chorus lands and the whole room decides to go for it. On the painting side, your host walks you through the whale one stage at a time, starting with that big sweep of blue ocean and finishing with the white highlights that make the water look like it's moving.
Think 80s synth and stadium rock early on, then the 90s once everyone has warmed up, with girl group anthems and the dance floor fillers from every school social you ever went to. The singalong breaks double as drying time between layers, so nobody sits there literally watching paint dry. They're also the perfect excuse to duck to the bar.
A 6pm Saturday start gives you the whole afternoon at the beach and then a proper night out without driving into Port. Rita's Bistro serves dinner seven days, so food at the club is easy. Bring the book club, a bride-to-be who wants more than a restaurant booking, or the neighbour you keep promising to catch up with. It's 18+, and lots of people book on their own. Once the canvases are finished, the club's Big Bowl makes a cracking backdrop for a photo with your whale.
Bonny Hills is just around the corner, and it's a short run down from Port Macquarie or up from Laurieton and North Haven. Can't do Saturday? Catch us the night before in Wingham, the next afternoon in South West Rocks for 60s and 70s, or at our ABBA night in Port Macquarie on 11 December. Every Lake Cathie paint and sip date has its own page, and the rest of the state sits under NSW paint and sip nights.
Tonight's Artwork
Ocean Whale
A majestic whale moves through deep ocean blue in a painting that balances grandeur and serenity. The whale's form is defined in dark navy and charcoal tones against a rich blue background, with white highlights catching the light as it moves through the water. The scale of the painting, filling the whole canvas, creates an immediate sense of awe. Each layer builds depth into the ocean around the whale until the final white highlights snap the whole composition into focus. One of the most striking results on the calendar.

FAQs
Will there be a singer?
There will. A live vocalist performs throughout the session, so the 80s and 90s songs come with a real voice leading the room.
What's the painting?
Ocean Whale, a full canvas whale in deep navy and charcoal swimming through rich blue water, with the white highlights added last. It's from the Paint Juicy catalogue and you take it home the same night.
How long does the session run?
Painting kicks off at 6pm on Saturday 7 November. Give it up to 3 hours, and you'll be done close to 9pm.
Do I need any art skills?
None. The host demonstrates every brushstroke, one step at a time, and nobody moves on until the room is ready.
What if singing isn't my thing?
That's fine. Plenty of guests start off just humming. Whether you're belting it out or tapping along with your brush, you'll fit right in.
Is it weird to come on my own?
Not at all. Lots of people book a single seat, and we'll put you with a friendly table so you've got company from the start.
Can friends on separate bookings be seated together?
Yes. Ask everyone to use one group name when they fill in "sitting with friends" at checkout, and your crew stays together.
Can we bring snacks or a bottle?
No BYO. Club Lake Cathie has a bar, and Rita's Bistro serves lunch and dinner seven days, so food and drinks are right there at the club.
Would a hens or birthday group fit in?
Definitely. Tell us at checkout who's celebrating and they'll get their own shout-out on the night.
Where can I get tickets?
Only online, through this page. Door sales aren't an option, so lock in your seat here before Saturday.
Can we book a private session for just our group?
Yes, as long as you've got at least 10 paid seats. It's $700 AUD flat to cover the first 10 people, and every guest beyond that is $65. Any design in the Paint Juicy catalogue is fair game, and we'll switch up the colours free. Find out about private parties.
