What this night is
Grafton, here's a Thursday night with the harmonies built in. On 3 December, Paint Juicy brings easels and a 60s and 70s singalong into Bunker Distillery's cellar door and bar on North Street, tucked inside the old Tooheys Beer Factory building, with painting under way from 6pm. If the songs you still sing in the car involve Motown, a Beatles harmony or a cheeky flute solo, you'll feel right at home.
Lotti Rem sings the entire session live, and it takes surprisingly few songs for a room of polite strangers to turn into her backing choir. Think of the records that lived beside your parents' turntable: Motown soul and girl-group harmonies to start, then the 70s strut in with glam stompers, soft rock and the first sparkle of disco. The choruses earn their keep, too. While the whole room is belting one out, the last layer on your canvas is quietly drying, so you're ready to go again when the song ends.
Your host artist talks you through Such a Hoot from the mic, one stage at a time, beginning with a streaky sunset and finishing on the owl's enormous eyes. Nobody's expecting a gallery piece. Each owl picks up its own expression along the way, and lining them all up for the group photo at the end usually gets the biggest laugh of the evening.
It's a lovely fit for mums bringing their grown-up daughters to hear the songs they were raised on, and for the friend who has kept her flares in the wardrobe since 1974, just in case. Christmas party season is in full swing by early December too, so a work table that fancies something livelier than another pub meal will slot straight in.
With paint hitting canvas at 6pm and a session of up to 3 hours, you'll be heading home around 9pm with your owl under your arm and a school night still salvageable. It's a short hop over the river from South Grafton and an easy drive in from Waterview Heights, Clarenza, Junction Hill, Coutts Crossing and Copmanhurst. Every seat for this one has now gone, so if you missed out, the 10 December 80s and 90s night runs in the same room a week later, and anything else we've booked for town is listed under Grafton paint and sip.
Tonight's Artwork
Such a Hoot
A big-eyed, fluffy character owl perched on a branch, painted in dreamy teals, blues and greens with little pops of yellow and lilac across the chest. Those huge round eyes do all the work, so even first-timers walk away with a canvas full of personality. Warm autumn leaves frame the scene, olive green up top fading to rich rust and terracotta below, all against a soft streaky sunset background. Every owl comes out with its own attitude, so no two paintings on the night are the same. Bold, friendly and completely doable from the very first brushstroke.

Before you arrive
Arrive a few minutes early. Bunker Distillery Grafton Cellar Door & Bar has a bar for drinks and small plates on the night. Get settled in, grab a drink and find your seat before painting starts.
Wear clothes you do not mind painting in. We supply aprons but acrylic paint is enthusiastic and occasionally ambitious.
Dress ups are absolutely welcomed. 60s and 70s gear gets a big reaction from the room.
Tickets are online only. They are not sold at the door. This night has sold out, so grab a seat at our 10 December night instead.

FAQs
Who's on the mic?
Lotti Rem holds the microphone from the opening song until brushes go down, with a 60s and 70s songbook that has the whole room joining in.
What's on the canvas?
Such a Hoot, a fluffy, big-eyed owl in teal, blue and green, perched on a branch with olive and rust autumn leaves around it and a soft sunset behind. It comes from the Paint Juicy catalogue, and if you book a private session we can tweak the colours free of charge.
When do we finish up?
Paint goes on canvas from 6pm and we wrap within 3 hours, so most people are walking out around 9pm.
Do I need any painting experience?
None whatsoever. The host splits the owl into bite-sized stages and demonstrates each one first, and those big round eyes forgive a wobbly hand far more than you'd expect.
Will I have to sing?
Nobody hands you a microphone. Most people start by mouthing the words and end up harmonising with the next table a few songs later.
Can I come by myself?
Absolutely. Book a single seat and we'll place you with a friendly bunch, so you've got company from the first chorus.
Our tickets were bought separately. Will we still be seated together?
Yes. Pick a group name, then each of you writes it in the "sitting with friends" note when booking, and we'll put your easels side by side.
Can I BYO drinks or snacks?
No BYO on this one. Bunker's cellar door runs its own cocktail bar, mixing drinks with the distillery's own spirits, so order from the bar on the night.
Celebrating a hens or a birthday?
It's a ripper for both. Tell us who the guest of honour is in a note at checkout, and our host will make sure the whole room hears their shout-out on the night.
How do I get a ticket?
You'll find them on this page and nowhere else. There are no door sales, and this 3 December night has sold out, so book the 10 December night at Bunker Distillery if you still want in.
Can we book our own private session?
Yes. A private session costs $700 AUD flat covering your first 10 guests, each extra guest is $65, with a minimum of 10 paid seats. Pick a painting from our catalogue and we can adjust its colours for free. See how private sessions work.

"What a fantastic night out with a bunch of friends! The painting feels secondary almost to the 80s dress up, the singalong fun and the laughs! Will definitely do it again!"
