Friday night on the Mackay northern beaches, two decades of choruses you never actually forgot, live vocals and a sea turtle taking shape in front of you. You leave with a finished canvas and a sore voice.
Good to know: 18+ only. No BYO, bar and bistro on site.

What this night is
This is not a hushed little painting workshop. This is a Paint Juicy night. Big energy, bigger music, and a room laughing at its own canvases by the second hour.
Live vocals run the whole way through, so the singalong has a real voice out front rather than a playlist and a hopeful nudge. Your host guides every brushstroke on the mic, so nobody gets stranded at step four. Natural breaks between layers give everyone time to grab a drink, take photos and get their breath back before the next big chorus lands.
The playlist runs the pub rock and big pop of the 80s early, then slides into the 90s once the room has loosened up and the paint is flowing. Friend groups, mums and daughters, work crews who would rather do anything than stand around a function room, they all end up singing the same chorus by the end.
Bring the group chat, bring your mum, bring the mate who swears they cannot draw. We are in Mackay for two nights, so if Friday does not suit there is the 70s and 80s night on Saturday, and the rest of what is coming up sits in Mackay and across the rest of Queensland.

Sea Turtle
A big-eyed sea turtle drifts across layered turquoise and deep blue water, and the shell is the showstopper. It is a stained glass mosaic of rose pink, lime green, coral and orange radiating out from a pale gold centre, every panel outlined in deep navy. The body is sandy cream flecked with dark brown, and a few bubbles drift off into the corners. It looks like hours of fiddly detail. It is not. Each panel goes on as one simple shape and the colour gets blended inside it, which is why first timers walk out holding the most impressive thing they have ever painted.

Before you arrive
Arrive a few minutes early. Club Northern Beaches has a bar and a bistro, so sort your drinks and find your seat before painting starts at 6pm.
Wear clothes you do not mind painting in. We supply aprons but acrylic paint is enthusiastic and occasionally ambitious.
Dress ups are absolutely welcomed. Neon, shoulder pads, denim on denim, slip dress and chokers. Pick your decade and commit.
Tickets are online only and they are not sold at the door, so book before the night.

FAQs
Who is singing?
We bring live vocals with us, working the 80s and 90s catalogue for the full session while you paint. Live singing, not a speaker in the corner.
Is singing along optional?
Technically yes. Realistically you will not resist. Expect call and response moments and choruses you forgot you knew every word to.
What time does it finish?
Painting starts at 6pm and runs up to 3 hours, so brushes are down around 9pm.
Do I need painting experience?
None at all. We guide every step from blank canvas to finished painting, and the turtle shell that looks complicated goes on one simple layer at a time.
Can I do both Mackay nights?
Yes, and a few people will. Friday is the 80s and 90s with the sea turtle, Saturday is the 70s and 80s with the cactus desert. Different era, different canvas, book them separately.
Is this good for a hens or birthday group?
Absolutely. Hens nights and birthdays are the two most common private bookings we run. Add a note at checkout if you are celebrating and we will give the guest of honour a shout out on the night.
Can I come alone?
Yes, and plenty of people do. We seat you with other friendly humans so you are part of it from the first song.
Can groups who book separately sit together?
Yes. Add a note at checkout with the name of your group and we will seat you together.
Can I BYO food or drinks?
No BYO. Club Northern Beaches has a bar and a bistro, so food and drinks are available to buy on the night.
