Coffs Harbour Team Building Paint and Sip Recap: An Elephant, 80s Threads and Zero Awkward Games
Coffs Harbour, a cracking crew, and a team building afternoon that left every awkward icebreaker at the door. This was a private paint and sip for a group who came to actually enjoy themselves, not shuffle through trust-falls and forced small talk. There was a bold blue elephant taking shape on every easel, 80s and 90s get-ups as far as the eye could see, and yes, a fully committed Fred Flintstone in the mix. Hula hoops came out. Dance-offs broke out. The bar saw plenty of action, beer and wine flowing from early on. Karaoke kept ambushing the room between brushstrokes, and the canvases got cuter and crazier as the afternoon rolled on. By the end we were running late packing up, purely because nobody wanted it to stop. That is the kind of problem we are happy to have. We got the best bits on camera.
Team building without the cringe
Team building has a reputation, and it is not a good one. Somewhere out there is a flip chart and a stranger asking you to fall backwards into a colleague's arms. That is not us. We brought the actual fun: hula hoops, dance-offs, a few games that got the whole room laughing, and not a single moment where anyone had to share a fun fact about themselves. The ask from us is simple. Show up, grab a brush, and let the afternoon do the work. By the time the first song landed and the first hoop went spinning, the room had loosened right up. Nobody was checking the time. Nobody was hovering by the door. They were too busy having a genuinely good go at it.
An elephant on every easel
The painting for the session was a big, bold elephant, deep blues set against a blazing orange sunset, with a wash of pink and red below and reeds painted up from the bottom of the canvas. It is a striking one, the sort of scene that looks tricky until someone walks you through it stroke by stroke. From there the colours are entirely yours. Some elephants came out cute and characterful, some came out gloriously crazy, and every single one had its own personality by the time the brushes went down. For a group where plenty had not painted since school, the herd that lined up at the end was something to see. Everyone nailed it in their own way.
80s threads, big tunes and karaoke ambushes
The crew came dressed to the theme and committed hard. Neon everywhere, fishnet sleeves, fluoro sunnies, headbands, the lot, plus a Fred Flintstone who deserves a special mention for sheer dedication. The soundtrack leaned straight into the 80s and 90s, and the room sang along whether they meant to or not. Every so often someone would grab the mic and a full karaoke breakout would take over, mid-brushstroke, paint still wet. The bar did a roaring trade the whole way through, beer and wine flowing, and the energy never dipped. This is the part guests always remember. The canvas is the souvenir. The afternoon together is the bit they actually came for.
Have a look for yourself.
Massive thanks to the whole team for having us and for being such great company from the first hoop to the last note. We run team building sessions and paint and sip in Coffs Harbour all year round, with more nights down the highway in Port Macquarie and another local crew getting amongst it just up the road at the Coramba Hotel. Wrangling something for your own mob? A team building paint and sip hands you the room, the music and the whole afternoon, and we will bring the elephants.
See you at the next one. Trent & James.
