Summertime Australia Textured Art Paint and Sip 25th November Bargara NQ 1pm
“The whole room felt like joy!!”
Thermie Carmie, five-star Google review
Sculpt the surf with a palette knife instead of a brush. One finished canvas you can actually feel, three unhurried hours at Bargara Golf Club, and a room that is more chilled playlist than full volume singalong. You leave with paste under your fingernails and something worth hanging.
Good to know: 18+ only. No BYO, bar and bistro at the venue.
Recognised as a Best of Queensland Experience every year since 2022
What this session is
Textured art is painting you can run your hand across. Instead of a brush and thin colour, you work thick paste with a palette knife, pushing it into ridges and peaks that catch the light and throw their own shadows. The canvas stops being a flat picture and starts being an object.
Summertime Australia is the one you are building this afternoon. Turquoise water breaking into thick cream whitewater, dragged out across warm sand with a beach umbrella dropped in for good measure, the kind of coastline Bargara does better than most. One canvas, yours, coming home with you.
Be clear on one thing before you book. This is not one of our singalong nights. There is no live vocalist, no shouting the chorus, no hairbrush moment. The playlist sits under the room, the volume stays civilised, and the focus is the knife in your hand. If you want the loud version, we run plenty of those, and there is a 70s and 80s singalong at this same venue that same evening.
A one o'clock start makes it an easy Wednesday. Paint through the afternoon and still have your night free. It suits a mother and daughter afternoon, a small group of friends, a work team that would rather do something than sit at a table, or one person on their own who fancies a proper go at something new. Worth the drive from Bundaberg, Innes Park, Burnett Heads, Coral Cove and Elliott Heads, and yes, it is turtle nesting season up the road at Mon Repos.
If you are new here, Paint Juicy is 100% mobile paint and sip, recognised as a Best of Queensland Experience every year since 2022. There is more on the format on the textured art paint and sip page, more local sessions on the Bargara paint and sip page, and the wider region on the Bundaberg paint and sip page.
Flat Versus Raised
Why It Looks Better In Real Life Than In A Photo
A flat surface has nothing for light to catch. A raised one picks up a highlight on every peak and drops a shadow behind it, so the painting changes as you walk past it and changes again when the sun moves. That is the whole trick, and it is why a wobbly knife edge is a feature rather than a mistake.
Today's Artwork
Summertime Australia
Turquoise water breaking into thick cream whitewater, dragged out across warm sand with a beach umbrella dropped in for good measure. The wave is where all the paste goes, so the raised part is the hero of the picture rather than a detail in the corner.
Nothing in it is fiddly. It is knife work and confidence, built up in layers with time between them, which is exactly why an afternoon of up to 3 hours suits it.

Before you arrive
Arrive 15 minutes early. Bargara Golf Club has a bar and bistro, so grab a drink and be seated before we start.
Wear clothes you do not mind painting in. Texture paste is thicker than paint and considerably more enthusiastic about your sleeves.
Short nails help. So does leaving the good rings at home. You will be working the paste with a knife and occasionally a fingertip.
Bring something flat to carry the canvas home in the car. Raised paint stays soft for a while and does not like anything resting against it.
Tickets are online only. They are not sold at the door. If you haven't bought yours yet, grab it online before the day.
Buying this as a gift? We have gift cards that never expire.

Doors, drinks, seats. Your host demonstrates the knife work up close so you can see what thick paint actually does before you touch it.
The base goes down first, colour laid flat across the canvas, guided the whole way.
Break for a drink and something to eat while that base sets. The pauses are deliberate, thick paint needs them.
Then the paste. Wave, whitewater and sand built up with the knife, and photos at an angle so the texture actually shows.
FAQs
What is textured art?
Painting with thick paste and a palette knife instead of thin paint and a brush, so the surface ends up raised. Light catches the peaks and casts shadow behind them, which is why it looks better on your wall than it ever will in a photo.
Is there live music at this one?
No. This is the calmer format. Background playlist, conversational volume, no live vocalist and no singalong. Our singalong nights are a different thing entirely and there is one on at this venue the same evening.
Do I finish it on the day?
You do. The artwork is designed for the time we have, and the drying pauses are built into the afternoon rather than bolted on the end.
Do I need painting experience?
None at all, and textured art is friendlier to beginners than it looks. A knife edge is meant to be irregular, so the wobble that would show in a fine brush line just reads as texture here.
How do I get a wet canvas home?
Carry it flat, and give it a few days before you hang it. Bring something flat for the boot and you will be fine.
Can I change the colours?
Within reason, yes. The artwork comes from our catalogue and we are happy to tweak colours to suit you at no extra charge. We do not paint a different subject from scratch.
Can we celebrate a hens or birthday at this session?
Absolutely. Add a note at checkout if you are celebrating and we will give the guest of honour a shout out on the day.
What if I am coming alone?
You are welcome. Plenty of people come solo, and a quieter afternoon session is an easy one to walk into on your own.
Can I BYO food or drinks?
No BYO. Food and drinks are available to purchase from the Bargara Golf Club bar and bistro.
Want a private session instead?
We run private textured art sessions for hens nights, birthdays and work groups, with a minimum of 10 guests. Enquire about a private session here.
