Canberra Paint and Sip Recap: Movie Mania (Comedy + Tragedy in purple)

Canberra, you were a vibe.
We rolled into town for our Canberra Paint and Sip at The Australian National University and it was one of those sessions that just felt easy. A smaller group, a proper mix of personalities, plenty of laughs, and none of that forced “come on everyone be loud” energy. Just good humans, good chat, and everyone actually getting into it.

The artwork for the night was our Movie Mania piece: the classic comedy and tragedy masks floating over a Hollywood-style skyline, with a bold purple sky, old-school light beams shooting up into the night, and sparkles flickering across the water like the city was putting on a show. Dramatic, a little theatrical, and oddly satisfying once it all comes together.

What we loved most was how different every painting ended up. Same steps, same concept, totally different results. Some people went bright and punchy with the beams, some went moodier and more cinematic, and a few absolutely nailed that “old Hollywood poster” feel without even trying.

Canberra crowds always bring the best kind of energy too: thoughtful, funny, a bit eclectic, and genuinely engaged. Lots of conversation, lots of encouragement across the tables, and that nice feeling that everyone’s there to actually have a good time, not just tick a box.

If you came along, thanks for making it such a lovely night. Canberra, we’ll be back.
