“The whole room felt like joy!!”
Thermie Carmie, five-star Google review
Saturday night at the Smithfield Tavern, north of Cairns, with live vocals from Lotti Rem, up to 3 hours of choruses your parents played too loudly in the car, and a lavender field at sunset going up on your canvas in violet and apricot. You walk out with a finished painting, a wrecked voice and a Saturday you will actually talk about on Monday.
Good to know: 18+ only. No BYO, bar on site.

What this night is
Quiet is not on the run sheet. This is a Paint Juicy night, so expect big sound, a room that gets braver with every chorus, and a lot of people discovering they are funnier than they remembered. If your usual Saturday at Smithfield is a quiet drink and an early night, consider it cancelled.
Lotti Rem sings live for the whole session, which is the difference between a singalong and a playlist somebody left running. Your host talks you through every brushstroke on the mic, so nobody is left staring at a half finished sky wondering what happened. The breaks between layers are built in on purpose, so there is time to get another drink, take the photo, and be ready when the next big one starts.
The set leans into the 70s early, all disco and pub singalongs, then swings through the 80s once the room has stopped pretending it is shy. Groups of mates, mums and daughters, workmates who have been threatening to organise something since Christmas, they all end up shouting the same chorus by the third hour.
A 6pm Saturday start makes the whole thing easy. Brushes down around 9pm, so you can stay on at the tavern or take the canvas home while the night is still young. Simple for Trinity Beach, Trinity Park, Kewarra Beach and Yorkeys Knob, an easy run down the highway from Palm Cove and Clifton Beach, and a straight shot north for anyone coming out of Cairns city. Everything else on the calendar sits across the rest of Queensland.
Tonight's Artwork
Lavender Fields
Row after row of lavender runs back to a low horizon in violet, deep purple and lilac, lifting to pink and cream where the last of the light lands on the tips. The sky behind it burns apricot into hot pink, with the sun dropping low behind a dark treeline. None of it is drawn with careful outlines. The whole field is built from quick dabs of a loaded brush, which is why it comes together faster than it has any right to and why a heavy hand helps rather than hurts. It is the calmest thing on the canvas and the least calm you will be all night.

Before you arrive
Get there a few minutes early. Sort your drinks at the bar and find your seat before painting starts at 6pm.
Wear something you do not mind painting in. Aprons are supplied, though acrylic paint has a habit of finding a sleeve.
Dress ups are very welcome. Flares, sequins, shoulder pads, a headband with real ambition. Pick your decade and commit.
Tickets are online only and they are not sold at the door, so book before the day.
Buying this as a gift? We have gift cards that never expire.
Buy a Gift CardHow the session runs
Arrive early, grab a drink, find your seat. Everything is already waiting at your easel.
Host kicks off, Lotti Rem starts singing, and the painting begins step by step from a blank canvas.
Natural breaks for top ups, photos and the choruses that get louder every round.
Last details, group photo, canvas wrapped. You leave with a lavender field and a much better Saturday than the one you had planned.
FAQs
Who is singing?
Lotti Rem, live on the mic for the full session, working the 70s and 80s catalogue while you paint. A real voice in the room, not a speaker in the corner.
What are we painting?
Lavender Fields, rows of purple lavender running back to a low horizon under an apricot and pink sunset sky, with the sun dropping behind a dark treeline on the left. Want the colours shifted to suit your lounge room? Say so on the day and we will help you change them, no extra charge.
Do I have to sing?
Nobody is checking. You will anyway. There are call and response moments and at least three songs you forgot you knew every word to.
What time does it finish?
Painting starts at 6pm and runs up to 3 hours, so brushes are down around 9pm.
Do I need painting experience?
None at all. Every step is guided from blank canvas to finished piece, and a field of lavender is built from short dabs rather than fiddly detail, so it is far kinder than it looks.
Is this good for a hens or birthday group?
Ideal. Hens parties and birthdays are the two occasions we see most. Add a note at checkout if someone is celebrating and we will give them a shout out on the night.
Can I come on my own?
Yes, and plenty do. We seat you with other friendly humans so you are part of it from the first song.
Can groups who book separately sit together?
Yes. Add a note at checkout with the name of your group and we will seat you together.
Can I BYO food or drinks?
No BYO. The Smithfield Tavern has a bar, so grab your drinks there on the night.
Can we book the whole room instead?
Yes. Private sessions are $700 AUD flat for the first 10 guests and $65 per additional guest, with a minimum of 10 paid guests. Send us the details and we will sort a date.
Where do I buy tickets?
Right here on the Paint Juicy website. Tickets are not sold at the door, so book your seat online before the day.

"such a great night out! Sore throat next day, I might have drowned out the Live entertainment (Sorry Lottie). I didn't think I could paint, but with expert guidance I nailed it. And so did Paint Juicy!"
