Mackay 80s and 90s Paint and Sip Recap
Neon, singalongs and a jam-packed beer garden
Mackay, you turned it on. We took over the open-air beer garden at Mt Pleasant Tavern and it was packed to the rafters. Not a single seat left, clinking glasses everywhere, and a chorus line of questionable singing, haha. The breeze was warm, the crowd was louder, and the night had that easy festival feel from the first hello.

The vibe
From check-in, it was chaos in the fun way. Bright tees, scrunchies, double denim and a room full of people who came to laugh first and worry about brushstrokes later. We ran the 80s and 90s bangers and the crowd did the rest. Call and response moments took off, accidental harmonies happened, and tables egged each other on between layers.

On the menu: disco giraffe energy
Disco giraffe was the game and Mackay played it with commitment. We kept the format beginner friendly with clear steps and plenty of breathing room so you could top up, chat and still finish proud. Some went classic, some went wild, all of it was very “hang this on the wall and brag about it.”

Beer garden service that did not miss
Credit where it is due. The functions team at Mt Pleasant Tavern were on it all night. Quick service, easy smiles and a bar that kept up with the pace without breaking stride. Orders landed fast so no one missed a chorus or a key change. That is how you host.

Crowd moments we loved
- A table-wide singalong that accidentally turned into karaoke for the entire beer garden
- First-timers nailing their outlines after one small brush-loading tip
- A birthday crew leading a dance break that somehow stayed on time with the painting steps
- A few absolute icons who brought glitter like it was a legal requirement
Why Mackay nights hit different
Mackay brings friendly heat. You show up open, cheer for strangers and lean right into the silly. It makes teaching easy and the photos ridiculous in the best way. We come for the art and leave with sore cheeks from laughing.

What to expect next time
Same simple-shapes teaching, same singalong soundtrack, same “I did not think I could paint this” wins. We keep it inclusive for ages 12 and up, build in breaks so you can socialise, and make sure everyone walks out with a canvas they will actually keep.
See you again soon
We will be back at Mt Pleasant Tavern because that combo of open-air vibes, a cracking bar and an A-grade functions team is hard to beat. Keep an eye on our Mackay Paint and Sip dates and jump in early. Bring your crew, bring your best chorus voice and we will bring the brushes, bangers and the disco giraffe.
